MKA is pleased to announce that Garret (Gary) Kramer, MKA Class of ’80 has been appointed as Head Varsity Ice Hockey Coach for the 2008 season.

Coach Kramer will replace Michael Good who was the Head Coach for the Cougars the last three seasons. Coach Kramer brings a wealth of experience as a former player and coach, and will be a tremendous asset to the MKA Department of Athletics, and specifically, to the members of the Ice Hockey Team. Coach Kramer’s level of enthusiasm and vision will bode well for the MKA Ice Hockey Team as we look to build upon what has been a very successful Ice Hockey tradition over the years at both Montclair Academy and The Montclair Kimberley Academy.

Headmaster Tom Nammack noted, “We are proud to have Gary Kramer return to MKA now as Head Coach of Varsity Ice Hockey. Gary, and his brother, played on some of the best teams MKA has ever produced. Gary knows what it takes to play on a championship level team and compete at the college level, and he has mentored players and developed their skills at every level of the game.” Coach Kramer is one of the greatest players to ever don a Cougar Hockey jersey and we are excited that he has decided to return ‘home." This was a tremendous opportunity for us to build on the rich tradition of MKA Ice Hockey. To bring back someone who understands first hand what it means to be an MKA student athlete is a very compelling opportunity for the school. We believe this is a move that will strengthen and solidify the entire MKA Hockey program and we look forward to seeing Coach Kramer bridge the gap between the past, present and future. Coach Kramer is very familiar with the NJ Youth Ice Hockey leagues and travel teams having coached numerous teams throughout his coaching career. His extensive experience and his knowledge of the game made him a perfect candidate to take over the Varsity Ice Hockey program at MKA.

We would like to thank Michael Good for everything he has done for MKA and our Ice Hockey program during the past three years. Coach Good’s dedication to and enthusiasm for our Ice Hockey Team and our players helped lead the resurgence of Cougar Ice Hockey. Coach Good’s dedication to the game and his players will serve him well throughout his coaching career. We wish him well and know that he will be a highly sought after coach throughout his career.
