Middle School

The Middle School offers a variety of clubs and activities designed to encourage participation, foster friendships across the grades and allow students to take a well-earned break from the classroom!  Year-long clubs include Student Government, 1:1 Laptop Leadership Group, Girls' Choir, Chamber Singers and Jazz Band. A sampling of club offerings can be seen below:

Art Club

Students are allowed to create drawings and paintings during this "free play" club time.

Book Fair Readers

Do you love reading?  Are you excited for November's Book Fair?  Join the Book Fair Readers Club!  We'll get a sneak peek at the titles coming to the Book Fair, read about the authors, help set up at a recess before the Book Fair, talk about books, and more!

Cross Country Club

Prepare yourself for a higher level of FITNESS this year....get in shape for the coming basketball season ...  8th graders get ready to be part of Coach Fleming's Varsity XC Team next year at the Upper School.

Eighth Grade Basketball

Come play hoops! No muss, no fuss!!


Game on. If you got game…or think you got game, come play.  The only special equipment needed is a pair of sneakers.

Girls Learn International

Girls Learn International is club to promote awareness of and advocacy for universal education for girls.  There are so many young girls around the world who face incredible challenges and adversity in trying to obtain a good education--this is your chance to make a difference and help change that!

Green Group

Do you want to make YOUR school and community a more green and eco-friendly environment but don’t know how? As a member of MKA GREEN, you will have the opportunity to have an immediate and positive impact on your school, your community and the your world.  Activities are decided on by the club. Activities this fall may include worm composting, leading recycling challenges, helping design and setting up a container garden, and promoting using reusable water bottles!

Knit and Chat

In the Knit and Chat club, we will learn basic knitting techniques as a way to relax and bond over this age-old tradition. We will also enjoy a snack and pleasant conversation. You might even end up with a lovely scarf! If you have knitting needles and yarn, bring them, if not, bring two pencils and we will take it from there.

A Lacrosse Kind of Life

Do you love playing lacrosse? Have you always wanted to try lacrosse?  Come learn how to catch and throw with lacrosse sticks.  No previous experience is needed.

Pass! Shoot! Score!

Join sponsors Martine & Chloe to play competitive and lively small-sided soccer games during club period. You’ll run, you’ll dribble, you’ll pass, shoot and SCORE!

Riddle Me This, Puzzle Me That

Do you like to solve puzzles and logic problems? Then this is the club for you! We will play games like Traffic Jam, Mancala, Mastermind and logic problems. We will NOT play any computer games or these games on the computer.

Science - the Final Frontier

Are you interested in Black Holes, Dinosaurs, Neuroscience, Archeology?  Do you want to explore science topics not covered in your science class?  Join us to read interesting articles in scientific journals like National Geographic and Scientific American and the NY Times Science section.  We will also watch science shows like NOVA, COSMOS and Mythbusters.

Storytellers Telling Stories

As members of the middle school community, we constantly see the faces of many different people who work and learn at the Middle School. In this club, we will go beyond the faces and find the stories. We will use our interview skills, writing skills and public speaking skills to help tell the stories walking through our hallways. If you like to write, communicate, or ask questions, this is the club for you.

Student Diversity Leadership Committee JR.

Are you looking to be a leader in the middle school? Do you want to make programs and presentations that impact our daily lives? If so, join The Student Diversity Leadership Committee JR. SDLC Jr is a club that works to create a more inclusive environment at MKA. The upper school has its own SDLC Club, so this club is the junior version of that.


Do you like taking pictures, fixing pictures and layout? Do you love design?  Are you creative and full of ideas?  Do you get a warm fuzzy feeling when you think about fonts, typography, spacing, cropping, and managing media?  If any or all of this is true or even if you just want to learn what its all about, then yearbook is for you.  We will take pictures and design pages for the middle school yearbook. Hope you are excited to help!
