Montclair Kimberley Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of Luke Harris as Head Varsity Football Coach for the 2012 season.
Coach Harris comes to MKA from his alma mater, Germantown Academy (Class of 1992) where he has served as Assistant Athletic Director and Head Football Coach since 2006. Prior to that appointment, Harris was a collegiate football coach for ten years at institutions such as Delaware State University, Mansfield University and Frostburg State University.
Harris received his bachelor’s degree from Dickinson University and his master’s degree from Shippensburg University. While at Dickinson, he set the school record by starting 43 consecutive games, was a member of three Centennial Conference Championship teams, was a three-time All League linesman and helped lead the Dickinson team to a 32-9-2 record.
Throughout his coaching career, Harris has done an outstanding job of working with young athletes to help them reach their potential both on and off the field. As an independent school graduate, teacher, coach, advisor and House System monitor, he brings a wealth of experience to the MKA community. His enthusiastic approach and knowledge of the sport of football and his rapport with his current student athletes make him an ideal candidate for the Head Varsity Football position.
“If we had been asked to define the experience of, and qualities for, MKA’s next Head Football Coach,” notes Headmaster Thomas W. Nammack, “we could not have come up with a better fit for the values of our athletic program. Luke combines expert knowledge of both the game of football and the skills required to be an effective coach, with the belief that good sportsmanship and hard work are the cornerstones of any strong program. He really has it all as a coach, mentor and former player who understands how to sustain a first-rate program that supports the mission of an independent school such as MKA”.
