Despite the weather, this week has got off to an exceptionally good start for MKA varsity teams as they claim three championships.
On Monday, the Varsity Girls' Lacrosse Team won the NJ Prep B State Lacrosse Championship 22-10 over Newark Academy, so claiming their second consecutive Prep B State Championship for the first time in school history. The Cougars were led by Tess Meyer '12 (11 goals), Sylvie Konner '12 (5 goals) and Emma Layton '13 (12 saves). The team fought back from being down 2-4 with 10 minutes left in the 1st half and scored 20 of the next 26 goals for the win.
That same day, the Varsity Golf Team won the Non-Public B North Sectional Championship at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, and has now qualified for the Tournament of Champions to be be played on May 24. The Cougars were led by Steven Piela '12 who shot a 76 to capture 2nd place individual honors.
And on Tuesday, the Varsity Boys' Lacrosse Team (14-4) defeated Rutgers Prep 9-8 to win their second consecutive NJ Prep B Lacrosse State Championship. Craig Schweitzer '12 (12 saves) made two huge saves in the last 7 seconds to preserve the win and Maurice Walsh '12 (3 goals) and Matt Lane '13 (1 goal/5 assists) led the team in scoring.
