Upper School Black Student Affinity Group Discuss Colorism with 7th Grade English Classes
Seventh grade English students are currently reading Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi. The book addresses colorism, which is discrimination based on skin color. Upper School students Shelby Carter, Sanaa Williams, and Kelsey Freeman spoke to students about the history of colorism and its ties to slavery. They also shared examples of how colorism exists in the media, the entertainment industry, and different regions of the world.
