50 years ago, Montclair Academy and The Kimberley School merged to form Montclair Kimberley Academy. Because of this visionary and sustaining decision, we are MKA.
For five decades, the pursuit of knowledge, the rootedness of vision, and the practice of integrity have defined this inclusive, dynamic community. Genuine relationships between faculty and students are fostered by the brook, in the valley, and on the hill. Those authentic connections inform how students, at the edge of understanding, learn how to question, imagine, stretch, collaborate, compete, and create. MKA students embody a commitment to academic excellence, a forward-thinking mindset, and a deep sense of ethical responsibility. Their experiences here prepare them for ethical leadership as citizens in our swiftly changing world.
There is much to celebrate during this 50th year. We invite you to join us in commemorating this incredible milestone. This year, we will highlight the school's past and traditions while embracing MKA’s visionary, innovative, and forward-moving spirit.
Our 50th year offers, too, a moment to spotlight the school’s emerging strategic plan, which will inform the design of our future. MKA’s fifth Head of School Nigel D. Furlonge, noted the momentum of celebrating the school’s 50th year as we begin the strategic planning process, “We are committed to building relationships and cultivating partnerships to support our philanthropic goals and sustain MKA’s mission-driven education.”
Today and every day, we honor MKA’s rich history in how we do school. And we embrace the robust responsibility of acting today as stewards for the MKA of tomorrow.
When the youngest student in our community rings the Montclair Academy bell at the Gathering in October, we will listen, mindful of our first 50 years and poised to author our next chapter, each of us playing a pivotal role in its creation.
