MKA Honors Class of 2025 Lifers

On Wednesday, April 16, the annual ceremony celebrating MKA’s graduating “Lifers” was held at the Upper School in the Johnson Family Academic Center. The term “Lifers” describes an MKA student who has attended the school since they were in Pre-K, kindergarten, or first grade. Twenty-five students of the Class of 2025 were honored during this milestone celebration for their commitment, leadership, and impact. Each student received an MKA blanket and a photo frame containing a photo from their first year of school alongside their senior portrait as commemorative keepsakes.

David C. Flocco, Head of Upper School and Assistant Head of School for Strategic Initiatives, paid special tribute at the start of the ceremony to Lulu Johnson who passed away the summer before coming to the Upper School. In a twist of fate, the event took place on what would be Lulu’s 18th birthday. Her parents were in attendance as Dr. Flocco delivered heartfelt sentiments about Lulu’s legacy.

As the program continued, Head of School Nigel D. Furlonge delivered brief remarks. He noted, “Tonight, we honor 12 plus years of your commitment to MKA. You have a singular, special opportunity before you. Namely to change the world. Whatever you do, realize that each and every day, you have a choice before you. You just have to choose what part of the world you want to change.” Anya Barrett and Lauren Kaplan, both members of MKA's Board of Trustees and parents of Lifers, also addressed the class.

Before the night concluded, Dr. Flocco shared with the students meaningful reflections from former long-time Head of Primary School Ginger Kriegel and Primary School teacher Pat Parke who knew these students from their first days at school. Additionally, he stated, “It’s been the professional and personal privilege of a lifetime to watch you up close for the last 14 years. One thing that has remained constant in this grade, through the ups and downs, was you. Being a Lifer holds a special place in our hearts—we celebrate you because you have been the glue of this outstanding class.”

When students graduate from MKA, they know who they are and have a vision for where they want to go—this is the MKA edge. Lifers have a unique experience that reflects the very heart of an MKA education—one rooted in dynamic growth, community, and a deep sense of connection. As they prepare to take their next steps, these students carry forward more than just memories; they embody the purpose, passion, and perspective that define the MKA journey. We are proud to honor their legacy and excited to see how they will continue to lead and inspire beyond our halls.
