Montclair Kimberley Academy Completes Major Solar Panel Installation

Montclair Kimberley Academy (MKA) is excited to announce the completion of its solar panel installation project. As of November, all three campuses’ solar panels have gone live, cementing the school’s role as a forward-thinking energy producer within the Montclair community. This transition is expected to yield significant savings by replacing traditional energy sources with clean energy harvested from the sun.

Over the past four years, MKA has systematically replaced and upgraded roofs on the Primary, Middle, and Upper School campuses so the school could move forward with the significant installation of solar arrays. Partnered with Novitium Energy, a nationally renowned commercial solar energy development company headquartered in New Jersey, a total of 1,717 solar panel modules were installed at MKA. In the first year of producing electricity on-site alone, the arrays are projected to produce 975,231 kWh of energy and save another 48,762 kWh of energy typically lost through transmission.

Given that MKA is now an active onsite renewable energy source, any excess energy produced by the school will be returned to the grid and available to be consumed locally by the Montclair community. This greener approach helps us to be good stewards of our environment and cut our carbon footprint significantly.

The completion of the installation marks a major milestone for the school since the project’s inception, allowing MKA to uphold its commitment to becoming a local leader in sustainability.
