After-School Programs

MKA's Extended Day Program provides a supervised program after school for students in grades Pre-K through eight. Extended Day is open on school days until 6:00 p.m. Students have the opportunity to complete homework and participate in outdoor and indoor activities appropriate for their developmental level. Extended Day is available on a drop-in basis and is available to all MKA students. Along with the daily Extended Day activities, children may sign up for a variety of after school classes.

EXTENDED DAY CLASSES

FRENCH FOR 3RD GRADERS

Instructor: Madame Roure

Dates: Wednesdays beginning April 11 through May 23

Time: 2:20 to 2:50 PM

Capacity: Minimum 6 – Maximum 17 students

As a continuation of the French Club offered in the Fall 2017 semester, this class is for current French students in third grade who are interested in doing more writing and reading in French. Students currently registered are encouraged to continue if they have enjoyed it. However, new students currently in third grade are welcome to register if they are motivated to do more reading in French. Students will continue to act out stories and acquire new vocabulary as they continue to read the book “Les adventures d’Isabelle” by Karen Rowan and Donna Tatum-Johns.  

INTRODUCTION TO FRENCH FOR KINDERGARDENERS & 2ND GRADERS

Instructor: Madame Roure

Dates: Thursdays beginning April 12 through May 24

Time: 2:20 to 2:50 PM

Capacity: Minimum 6 – Maximum 17 students

Price: $90

Students will be introduced to the French language through stories from books, told with songs, and a variety of props and gestures. Children will acquire high frequency vocabulary and structures while having fun, playing active games, and singing.

PLEASE NOTE: Intro to French will not be held May 17.

TEA TIME FOR GRADES 1-3

Dates: Tuesdays beginning April 10 through May 22

Time: 2:30 to 3:30 PM

Would you like a "spot of tea?" It's a new tea party every week as we get together to enjoy tea and light refreshments from cultures and countries all around the world.  Some are sweet and some are savory, and all the teas are caffeine free. Scones, tea sandwiches and other goodies are nut free and without artificial sweeteners.

CHILDREN’S PAINTING & DRAWING FOR GRADES K-3

Instructor: Pencilworks Studio

Dates: Mondays beginning April 9 through May 21

This class will introduce your child to many different types of art! Students will work with materials such as watercolor, markers, tempra paint, crayon, and more! A different project will be completed each week. All supplies and aprons are included.

GYMNASTICS (GRADES PreK-3) AT MKA MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE ROOM

Gymnastics helps with overall strength and coordination, instilling higher confidence, a positive self-image, and cooperative learning skills. The program is designed to improve a young gymnast’s coordination through basic gymnastic skills. A typical class will start with proper stretching techniques to warm up the muscles, then proceed with progressions across the mat. Students will learn skills such as cartwheels, round offs, front and back walk overs, front and back handsprings, and more.

There’s a whole new world of life that lives under the oceans – from tiny little shrimp to giant wheels and sharks, and many kinds of plants that are totally different from the ones we know. Take a look at this amazing undersea world and make wonderful art projects that can help you imagine what life is like “under the sea!”

LEGO CHALLENGE FOR GRADES 1-3

Join in the fun as we use our bricks to build projects together, or accept the challenge to create some new and amazing things on your own. Build some cool creatures, gadgets, vehicles, and buildings while you learn from structural, mechanical, and civil engineering principles and stretch your imagination! Lego bricks are provided but will not be taken home. (Students each receive a mini build kit as a take away at the end of the series.)

One of the most awesome ways to express ourselves is through characters in a comic book or cartoon. The characters can be exaggerated and embellished to become anything we want them to be and the stories they tell are always imaginative and fun. In this class, we will travel into the world of cartoon are and learn all the basics for creating comic books and cartoons to share with friends and family.
