After-School Programs

MKA's Extended Day Program provides a supervised program after school for students in grades Pre-K through eight. Extended Day is open on school days until 6:00 p.m. Students have the opportunity to complete homework and participate in outdoor and indoor activities appropriate for their developmental level. Extended Day is available on a drop-in basis and is available to all MKA students. Along with the daily Extended Day activities, children may sign up for a variety of after school classes.

PENCILWORK for GRADES K-3rd

Instructor: Karen Winick of Pencilwork Studios

Dates: Tuesdays beginning January 15 through February 26

Time: 2:30 – 3:30

Capacity: Min 7 – Max 13 students

Price: $150

Children will be introduced to various art techniques including watercolors, tempra paint, colored pencil, crayon, and markers. Each child will be encouraged to use their imagination and to put their personal touch into each project. Aprons and all supplies are included. There will be a new project each week.

TEA TIME for GRADES 1st-3rd

Instructor: Artsy Smartsy

Dates: Tuesdays beginning January 15 through February 26

Time: 2:30 – 3:30

Capacity: Min 6 – Max 16 students

Would you like a “spot of tea?” It’s a new tea party every week as we get together to enjoy tea and light refreshments from cultures and countries all around the world. Some are sweet and some are savory and all teas are caffeine free. Scones, tea sandwiches, and other goodies are nut free and without artificial sweeteners.

***We cannot guarantee that all ingredients are safe from allergens. Children with life threatening allergies should not be enrolled in this group.

Everybody loves their pets – they are often considered members of the family! But have you ever wondered how it is that certain animals are welcomed into our homes and hearts, and others, well – not so much? Learn how to take care of the furry and feathered friends that we call our pets. We’ll study dogs, cats, fish, birds, horses, rabbits and make some great art projects about our favorite pets!

GYMNASTICS for GRADES PRE K-3rd

Dates: Wednesdays beginning January 16 through February 27

Gymnastics helps with overall strength and coordination, instilling higher confidence, a positive self-image, and cooperative learning skills. The program is designed to improve a young gymnast’s coordination through basic gymnastic skills. A typical class will start with proper stretching techniques to warm up the muscles, then proceed with progressions across the mat. Students will learn skills such as cartwheels, round offs, from and back walk overs, front and back handsprings, and more.

CHESS CLASS for GRADES K-3rd

Instructor: Grand Master Mackenzie Molner (former MKA student)

Dates: Thursdays beginning January 17 through February 28

Time: 2:30 – 3:30

Capacity: Min 6 – Max 16 students

Learn chess from the best! Join former MKA student and New Jersey State Chess Champion, Grandmaster Mac Molner for a brand new chess class! Students will learn the fundamentals, how to start a game off properly, and be introduced to helpful checkmate patterns and tactics. Classes will be a mixture of lessons, mini-games, special activities, and games played for fun. Come join in on the fun and make your first moves in the royal game!   

DIGITAL ART for GRADES K-3rd

Instructor: Montclair Learning Center

Dates: Thursdays beginning January 17 through February 28

Time: 2:30 – 3:30

Capacity: Min 6 – Max 20 students

Price: $240

Students will explore different digital arts techniques while using their creativity in a fun way. Using amazing brushes and symmetry, students will sketch and draw beautiful artwork. Students will create short animations and learn to alter images to create surreal effects.

LEGO ROBOTICS for GRADES 1st - 3rd (SECOND CLASS ADDED)

Dates: Fridays beginning January 18 through March 1 (Please Note: No class on February 15)

Have a young engineer or a child who just LOVES Legos? In this class, kids will team-up to build machines and structures before programming them to move, make sounds, and even react to external stimulus using motors and sensors through icon-based programming. Builds includes motorized catapult, battle axes, crossbows and more.

One of the most awesome ways to express ourselves is through characters in a comic book or cartoon. The characters can be exaggerated and embellished to become anything we want them to be and the stories they tell are always imaginative and fun. In this class we will travel into the world of cartoon art and learn all the basics for creating comic books and cartoons to share with friends and family.

SPACE ODYSSEY JR for GRADES PRE-K – K
