Extended Day

MKA's Extended Day Program provides a supervised program after school for students in grades Pre-K through eight. Extended Day is open on school days until 6:00 p.m. Students have the opportunity to complete homework and participate in outdoor and indoor activities appropriate for their developmental level. Extended Day is available on a drop-in basis and is available to all MKA students. Along with the daily Extended Day activities, children may sign up for a variety of after-school classes.

KITCHEN CHEMISTRY for GRADES 1-3

Instructor: Montclair Learning Center

Dates: Mondays beginning October 7 through December 2

Understand the chemistry behind food and cooking through hands-on projects and fun experiments. We will create delicious treats and amazing chemical reactions while learning about atoms, molecules, and designing structure models. Your student will have fun learning about both science and cooking, all while getting to enjoy the final product!

FUN WITH SUNPRINTS for GRADES K-3

Instructor: Debra Trebitz

Dates: Mondays beginning October 7 through December 2

Students will learn the beginnings of Photography by exploring how light and objects can make images on material such as light-sensitive paper and fabric. Then the prints will be incorporated into projects such as pillows, beanbags, and frames. Great for children interested in photography or any other kind of creative expression and in learning how things work.

Every week, we will explore our galaxies and prepare for our mission to the moon. We will learn about the planets and create our own solar system. Then we will travel through the stars and create our own constellations and build our own telescopes. The moon will be our next step as we learn the phases of the moon. We will then grow through astronaut training, and finally we will build our own rocket out of everyday material.

Encourage your budding artist to develop creative thinking skills and experiment with a variety of art-making materials and techniques including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, clay-making, and sculpture. We will explore new and recycled materials as we create a variety of fun projects.

FRENCH for GRADE 3

Instructor: Madame Roure

Dates: Wednesdays beginning October 16 through December 11

This class is for all students currently in Third Grade, including new students who are interested in doing more reading and writing in French. Students will come up with characters and act out stories using props, costumes, and puppets. Subsequently, we will write the stories down and illustrate them. This class is similar to what we do in French class but more focused on imagining and acting out stories. Help your student advance in French in a smaller group at a faster pace.

GYMNASTICS for GRADES PRE-K to 3 at MS Dance Room

Instructor: Miss Rochelle from Diamond Gymnastics

Dates: Wednesdays beginning October 16 through December 11

Gymnastics helps with overall strength and coordination, instilling higher confidence, a positive self-image, and cooperative learning skills. The program is designed to improve a young gymnast’s coordination through basic gymnastic skills. A typical class will start with proper stretching techniques to warm up the muscles, then proceed with progressions across the mat. Students will learn skills such as cartwheels, round offs, from and back walk overs, front and back handsprings, and more.

HAMMER + STAIN for GRADES PRE-K to 3

Instructor: Gretchen Orsini

Dates: Wednesdays beginning October 16 through December 11

Join in on some fun, DIY design projects that your children can bring home with them! Each week they will make something out of wood, and one week they will make their own canvas trick or treat bag. Get creative in a relaxed, guided environment while still being able to choose your own design, stain, and paint to fit your own taste. Students will be making projects ranging from Halloween themes to winter themes.

JR MAGIC for Pre-K to K

This class lets your kids step into the spotlight and amaze grown-ups with their magical skills. These tricks can be performed by little hands, but they pack a big WOW! Your kids will experience amazing fun when they learn the secrets of these jaw-dropping illusions. On their journey to becoming a Magic Jr. Master, each week they will learn and take different tricks home with them. In the last class they will get to share them with friends and family in a real magic show…and then keep all the tricks! They will gain experience in problem-solving, public speaking, storytelling, and magic.

Imagine a world where dolls rule! Where do they live, work, shop and play? We’ll create a fabulous dollhouse neighborhood using a cardboard template, furniture we’ll assemble ourselves, and lots of different designs and embellishments to customize our buildings and make them uniquely our own. It will be a barrel of fun as we learn architecture, interior and exterior design, curb appeal, and civil engineering in this creative and intriguing class.
