After-School Programs

MKA's Extended Day Program provides a supervised program after school for students in grades Pre-K through eight. Extended Day is open on school days until 6:00 p.m. Students have the opportunity to complete homework and participate in outdoor and indoor activities appropriate for their developmental level. Extended Day is available on a drop-in basis and is available to all MKA students. Along with the daily Extended Day activities, children may sign up for a variety of after school classes.

MYTHOLOGICAL GODS & MONSTERS for GRADES K-3

In the world of mythology, we meet many amazing and interesting characters, including great gods, monsters, heroes and even everyday mortals who become part of the amazing stories that teach us about nature, morality and the consequences of bad judgement. We’ll get in depth with a new character each week, and create some fantastic works of art which will connect back to our studies.

STEM SAMPLER for GRADES 1-3

Have a curious child? Maybe a budding engineer or a mad scientist? Not sure which class to take? This sampler has a different type of STEM activity each session – from science experiments to engineering feats to robotics, coding and science.

INTRODUCTION to FRENCH for 1st & 3rd GRADERS

Students will be introduced to the French language through mini stories told with dramatic play, videos, and a variety of props and gestures. Children will acquire high frequency vocabulary and structures in a 100% stress free environment by listening to the teacher and playing active games. Students who have taken this class last year are welcome to come back to continue acquiring the French language.

DINOSAUR ADVENTURE JR. for PRE-K & KINDERGARDENERS

Welcome to a prehistoric adventure, where dinosaurs rule and everything else drools! Learn about T-Rex, and Diplodocus and Hadrosaurus, then check out the flying reptile and the feathered dinos that evolved into birds today. Make dino doll, a fierce looking mask and lots more cool prehistoric projects as you learn all about those wild times millions of years ago.

AMERICAN GIRLS for GRADES K-3

Join us and explore the worlds of our favorite American Girl Dolls. Learn about the times in which they live and make wonderful art, hear their stories and make their favorite recipes. Enjoy their stories and even write one of your own! (Dolls are welcome to come to club time!)

GYMNASTICS (Grades PreK-3) at MKA MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE ROOM

Gymnastics helps with overall strength and coordination, instilling higher confidence, a positive self-image, and cooperative learning skills. The program is designed to improve a young gymnast’s coordination through basic gymnastic skills. A typical class will start with proper stretching techniques to warm up the muscles, then proceed with progressions across the mat. Students will learn skills such as cartwheels, round offs, from and back walk overs, front and back handsprings, and more.

CHESS CLASS for GRADES K-3

This is not your same old Chess class! You’ll study chess with a Master at your own skill level while you learn how to set up a board, how the pieces move, and how the game develops. Students play chess matches each week and are paired by skill level. There are also some creative surprises that will help you to play and understand the game and how it developed through history into the most popular game in the world today.

CLAY PLAY (CERAMICS, POTTERY & POLYMER) for GRADES K-3

Join in the fun as we explore many different ways to create with clay. Throughout history pottery has been the container of choice for storing, serving and preserving foods, liquids and other goods in the home and hearth. It has also been the medium of choice for making jewelry and other decorative items that enhance our lives and build self-esteem. We’ll use air dry clay to sculpt and mold, make jewelry and kinetic art with polymer clay and have an awesome time with everyone’s favorite – Model Magic!

PAINT ‘N’ PARTY for GRADES 1-3

Become a real painter each week with us as we create a great series of paintings and learn the techniques and concepts that go into successful art. Guided by our amazing painters you’ll use high quality acrylics and learn color, perspective, light & shadow, composition and much more while you relax with your friends and enjoy some yummy snacks, juice, conversation and ART! You’ll finish with some amazing painted canvases, including your masterpiece - a beautiful larger piece that incorporates all of the concepts you have learned along the way.
