*NEW* Middle School Teams
After a short hiatus, the Middle School After-school Programs are up and running for the spring semester! In the hopes of building community, enriching students, and providing an engaging after-school program, the Middle School is introducing two new after-school teams and reintroducing an already existing one. Please talk to your children in grades 6-8 regarding these opportunities.
Students participating in spring sports are unable to join one of these teams, but sign-ups will be available again in the fall. We look forward to seeing these teams thrive this spring! If you have any questions, please reach out to Shanie Israel.
Model UN Team
Tuesdays and Thursdays | Facilitated By Mike Alexander
Model UN (MUN) is an activity that students can engage in to learn about world issues, and how cooperation between nations that might have different goals or agendas can make a better life for everyone. Model UN helps with developing crucial skills that students will use later in life, such as research and writing, public speaking, critical thinking, ability to solve difficult problems and most importantly, collaboration and diplomacy. Students will assume the role of delegates from a member state of the real United Nations and work through the issues that their particular sovereign nation faces. Using the skills they will learn in meetings, they will work with other “nations” to improve the life of not only the denizens of their assigned country, but the rest of the world as well.
When we work together to reach a common goal, we make the world a better place for everyone.
Speech and Debate Team
Mondays and Wednesdays | Facilitated By Amy Mai Tierney
Join the Speech and Debate Team and develop the invaluable skill of public speaking! Students will learn the techniques for building and delivering a successful speech. Students will engage in delivering speeches, as well as participating in formal and informal debates. In addition, students will grow the necessary skills to critique, analyze, and question speeches and debates delivered by others. This team will develop and improve public speaking, argumentative, and critical thinking skills in communication settings. Students will prepare and deliver speeches and participate in many in-class debates and forums on classic topics. Techniques will be taught to control speech anxiety, and structure and organize information to present to a variety of audiences. As such, the fundamentals of physical and vocal delivery skills, use of language and gesturing, as well as listening skills will be learned.
Robotics Team
Tuesdays and Thursday | Facilitated by Chris McLaughlin and Jacqy Chung
Our FIRST Lego Robotics team is whirring right along, and we’re looking for fresh engineers to join us. Together we’ll work on designing, building, and programming Lego SPIKE robots to complete the challenges set forth in this year’s FIRST Lego League season. If you are in 6-8th grade, and this sounds like you, sign up using the form above. Space is limited! Who knows, maybe this is your first step toward joining our 2025-26 team!
