🎃 Halloween Costume Drive — October 6–13

This week, MKA’s Primary and Middle Schools are kicking off a Halloween Costume Drive to support Wynona’s House, an organization that provides advocacy, support, and healing for children affected by abuse and neglect in Essex County.

Please send in any clean costumes (new or gently used) your family is ready to pass along. Costumes for children of all ages and sizes are welcome!

This drive is a wonderful way for our community to spread joy while supporting an organization doing important work for children and families. Thank you for helping us make Halloween a little happier for our neighbors!

Kindergarten Science Open House — Tuesday, October 13

Our Science Specialist, Ms. Glynn, would like to invite the parents of Kindergarten students to drop by the science room anytime between 7:50 a.m. and 8:20 am on Tuesday, October 13, for our Kindergarten Science Open House. While there will be no formal presentation, please feel free to stop in to see the science lab, try some of the hands-on activities your child will experience this year, and ask any curricular questions you may have.

Amplify Desmos Math Information Session — Wednesday, October 14

Primary School parents and parents of students in grades four and five are invited to attend our Amplify Desmos Math Information Session on Wednesday, October 14, from 6:00–7:00 p.m. The session will take place on the Primary School campus. The purpose of this event is to share information about the math program and inform parents of the resources available to them as they support their children.

New Monthly “Be You” Wednesdays

To kick off our year together, we are excited to announce a fun new monthly tradition: "Be You" Wednesdays!

On one designated Wednesday of each month, our school community will celebrate individuality, creativity, and self-expression. Each "Be You" Day will feature a fun theme, and all students are welcome and encouraged to dress in alignment with that theme.

Participation is entirely optional. If your child prefers not to dress according to the monthly theme, they are warmly invited to wear spirit wear or any outfit that makes them feel confident and uniquely themselves.

Our goal is simple: to create a supportive environment where every child has the opportunity to feel free to express who they are.

2026–2027 "Be You" Day Schedule & Themes

  • October 21 — Crazy Sock Day: Show off your most colorful cozy socks.
  • November 18 — Camping / Outdoor Day: Wrap yourself up in warm plaid, camouflage attire, or comfy outdoor gear as the autumn weather cools down.
  • December 16 — Festive Sweater/Shirt Day: Wear a cheerful winter sweater or shirt featuring holiday patterns, or dress in shades of ice blue and snowy white to welcome the chilly winter weather.

Halloween at the Primary School — Friday, October 30

Please take a moment to read this letter regarding Primary School Halloween festivities on Friday, October 30, with details on costume dress codes and other important reminders.

Connecting to Your Child’s Seesaw Journal

Primary School students use Seesaw to document their learning experiences in advisor and specialist classes periodically throughout the school year. Primary School families can connect to their child's Seesaw journal on the web at app.seesaw.me, or by downloading the Seesaw app, available on iOS and Android. New families will receive an email invitation to connect to their child's journal and be prompted to create a new account. Returning families can sign in to their existing Seesaw account to connect to their child's journal.

Walker Drop-off and Pick-Up Information

If you choose to walk your child to school in the morning or pick them up on foot in the afternoon, please note that you may not park on Orange Road or in the school parking lot while you walk to the school. If you are walking your child, please park on Llewellyn Road or Melrose Place. We are also reminding everyone to obey the STOP sign at the end of our driveway. Thank you for your help in keeping our morning and afternoon carline as efficient and safe as possible.
