AFTER-SCHOOL CLASSES & ACTIVITIES
At MKA, the school day may end, but the opportunities for growth and discovery continue. We offer a range of age-appropriate, after-school activities designed to spark curiosity, nurture talents, and help your child explore new interests and find their learning edge. Information about after-school activities on each campus is provided below. Please note that enrichment programs, including Extended Play and Enrichment (EPE), Extended Student Supervision (ESS), and private music lessons, are not included in tuition. All other activities are covered by tuition.
Primary School (Grades Pre-K - 3)
Extended Play and Enrichment (EPE)
After-school care is available from the end of the school day until 6:00 p.m. each day through MKA’s Extended Play and Enrichment (EPE) Programs. Enrollment is either by trimester or on a drop-in basis. Led by experienced Primary School educators, EPE programs provide an engaging and personalized experience for your child as you choose the activities and timing that are right for your family including Stay and Play, homework help, a wealth of enrichment activities, and Bitty Sports. Pricing varies depending on the classes selected.

Group and Private Music Lessons
Open to all levels, this program offers weekly one-hour lessons in violin or cello, grouped by age and ability. It's a fantastic opportunity for young learners to discover the joy of creating music. We can help you with instrument rental, and the group lessons are free. For those seeking more individualized attention, private lessons are also available at an additional cost.

Middle School Lower House (Grades 4 and 5)

Extended Play and Enrichment (EPE)

Middle School Band
If your fourth or fifth-grade student participates in Middle School Band, there are required group sessions after school as follows:
- Fourth grade: Percussion (Wednesday 3:00-4:00 p.m.), Woodwinds (Thursdays), Brass (Fridays)
- Fifth grade: Woodwind (Mondays), Brass (Tuesdays), Percussion (Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.)

Middle School Strings
If your fourth or fifth-grade student participates in Middle School Strings, there are optional group sessions after school. The schedule will be provided at the beginning of the year.

Private Music Lessons
Private lessons on a variety of instruments are available after school at an additional cost.

Middle School Upper House (Grades 6-8)
Extended Student Supervision (ESS)
Extended Student Supervision (ESS) is available Monday-Friday, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m., for students in grades six through eight. Sign-up by trimester is required, and fees for a trimester vary depending on pick-up time.

Athletics
The mission of the Middle School athletics program at MKA is to provide opportunities for all students to be successful while working on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. MKA offers seasonal sports teams for students in sixth through eighth grade.
- FALL: soccer, field hockey, football, girls tennis, cross country, volleyball
- WINTER: basketball, swimming, fencing, ice hockey
- SPRING: lacrosse, boys tennis, baseball, softball, and track and field
Middle School sports start at 3:00 p.m. and practice ends at 4:00 p.m., with students being dismissed by 4:15 p.m. Both home and away games run later, with schedules provided at the start of the season.

Academic Teams
These popular teams help build our community and enrich our students. Spaces are limited, and interested students are urged to apply when enrollment opens. Due to scheduling conflicts, students participating in teams are not able to participate in sports during that trimester.
Model UN Team
Tuesdays and Thursdays
Model UN (MUN) is an activity that students can engage in to learn about world issues, and how cooperation between nations that might have different goals or agendas can make a better life for everyone. Model UN helps with developing crucial skills that students will use later in life, such as research and writing, public speaking, critical thinking, the ability to solve difficult problems, and, most importantly, collaboration and diplomacy.
Speech and Debate Team
Mondays and Wednesdays
Join the Speech and Debate Team and develop the invaluable skill of public speaking! Students will learn the techniques for building and delivering a successful speech. Students will engage in delivering speeches, as well as participating in formal and informal debates.
Robotics Team
Tuesdays and Thursdays
Students work together to design, build, and program LEGO SPIKE robots to complete the challenges set forth in this year’s FIRST LEGO League season. Space is limited!

Theater/Fine & Performing Arts
MKA has a vibrant theater arts program. All students are encouraged to participate either through acting or supporting technical roles. Practices typically run after school from 3:30 p.m.
- Grades 6: Winter play
- Grade 7: Spring Shakespeare play
- Grade 8: Fall play

Upper School (Grades 9-12)

The Upper School campus is a lively place after class ends, with students often staying to study and meet with faculty during their office hours. MKA also provides a rich program of after-school co-curricular activities. The building is regularly open until 6:00 p.m., and later if there are rehearsals or other events.
Upper School Athletics
The mission of the athletics program at MKA is to provide opportunities for all students to be successful while working on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. MKA offers seasonal sports teams for ninth through twelfth-grade students. Upper School team practices last for approximately two hours daily, with students usually being dismissed by 6:15 p.m. Both home and away games run later, with schedules provided at the start of the season.

Upper School Weight Room
The Upper School Weight Room is open to students and supervised Monday to Friday from 3:15 - 5:00 p.m.

MKA in the Community
As part of MKA in the Community service opportunities, we offer three weekly, after-school service trips to local non-profits.

Performing Arts
Theatre
Students participate in rehearsals for the Fall Play, Winter Musical, and Spring Play.

Other Extra-Curriculars
While the Upper School designates time during the school day for clubs to meet, many clubs, particularly our competitive clubs (Mock Trial, Robotics, Speech & Debate, etc.) use the afternoons to continue to practice and to prepare for competitions.
