May Term

May Term reflects MKA’s highest aspirations for each graduating class: it offers them some of the freedom they will experience in the future, encourages them to pursue a passion, asks them to take responsibility for their own learning, and implores them to engage with the world. During the month of May, seniors try out a possible career path, explore an area of interest, develop an area of expertise, or give back to a community by contributing meaningfully to a local organization. For others, it's a chance to give back to a community or a cause, to contribute meaningfully to a local organization, or to return to MKA’s Primary School campus as a teacher’s assistant.

May Term is best used to see the world as it is, to participate vigorously and joyfully in that world, and ultimately, to change that world for the better.

Opportunities

StartUp 101

StartUp 101

This self-contained program will encourage a team of students to use design-thinking methodology to define a problem, research it, ideate solutions, prototype minimum viable concepts, select a solution, and implement the solution in a four-week introduction to entrepreneurism, design, and leadership.

Global Experience Program

Global Experience Program

Students are offered the option to travel and immerse themselves in culture, conservation, and leadership across continents, empowering them to think critically and cultivate empathy for the world beyond our walls. Through this, they gain the skills necessary to become informed, ethical, and purposeful global citizens.

Community Engagement

Community Engagement

Seniors may pursue a project of their own, such as volunteering in outreach programs like Habitat for Humanity. Community engagement is distinguished from community service in that it combines meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience and teach civic responsibility.

Teaching Internships

Teaching Internships

Opportunities for interning at either MKA's Primary or Middle School campuses are available for seniors interested in a teaching experience with young students. These seniors assume the full responsibilities of becoming part of an MKA classroom, and are always favorites with their young charges.
