Fine and Performing Arts Trips — Friday, May 8

We are excited to offer multiple Fine and Performing Arts trips to many Upper House students next Friday, May 8. To accommodate both the students traveling and the students staying on campus, we are switching the order of our day. Our fourth, fifth, and eighth-grade students will run their regular “Blue Friday” classes, with some shifts to the order of when classes meet. One change is for the fifth grade, who will meet for their PE class instead of their F&PA class. Sixth and seventh-grade students will still have English, math, science, social studies, and world language classes on Friday, but classes will be at different times and with a different cohort of students. We are starting the day with a longer Advisor period, so students are prepared for the shifted schedule.

Virtual Parent Meeting — Tuesday, May 12

Please join the Middle School Administrative Team for a virtual parent meeting on Tuesday, May 12, from 7:00 - 7:45 p.m. We will share information regarding grade-level transitions for students and revisions to the Middle School schedule. The meeting link and an opportunity to submit questions are forthcoming.

Eighth Grade Trip to NYC Chinatown — Wednesday, May 13

On Wednesday, May 13, the eighth-grade Chinese students will have the opportunity to take a field trip to Chinatown in New York City to experience Chinese culture firsthand and to apply the knowledge and language skills they have learned in the classroom to real-life settings.

During the trip, students will explore Chinatown in small groups while completing a scavenger hunt activity. We will also have lunch at a Chinese Hot Pot restaurant.

Students are required to follow the regular school dress code and are permitted to bring their phones. We also recommend that students bring a water bottle and an umbrella in case of rain. For questions, please contact Fangzhou Zhang Simon.

Volunteers Needed for Fall 2026 Parent Grade Socials

We're looking for enthusiastic families to host next year's fall parent socials. Hosting is easy and can be done solo or with other parents in your grade. You can choose to open your home for a cozy get-together or reserve a space at a local bar or restaurant—whatever fits your style!

Why Host?

  • It’s a fantastic way to meet other parents in your child’s grade.
  • You get to create a fun, welcoming atmosphere for our MKA community.
  • No need to go overboard—these socials are about connection, not perfection!

If you’re interested or have questions, simply reach out to Meredith Levine. Not ready to host solo? Grab a few fellow parents and co-host together!

These socials are the heart of what makes MKA special—parents connecting, sharing laughs, and strengthening our incredible community. We’d love for you to be a part of it!

Tri-Campus Art Mural Initiative: Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month

This spring, MKA's counseling team is partnering with One River Art School in Montclair to bring a meaningful, school-wide art initiative to all three campuses in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month in May.

Students across every age group will create artwork that reflects what mental health, emotional well-being, and feelings mean to them—with projects thoughtfully designed and scaffolded to meet each developmental stage. One River's instructors will collaborate with the counseling team and faculty to guide and execute the project on each campus during the first week of April.

By May, a community mural will be on display at each campus, weaving together every student's contribution into a collective expression of wellness, resilience, and connection. We can't wait for you to see it!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Daniella Kessler, Director of Counseling.
