Big News in the MKA Track and Field World!

11 February 2013

Congratulations are due on many fronts to the MKA Track and Field team. First and foremost, to the team's 14-year Head Coach and former two time NYC Marathon winner, Tom Fleming, on his induction into the 2013 Road Runners Club of America American Long Distance Running Hall of  Fame. Fleming's induction, together with Allan Steinfeld (former NYC Marathon race director) and Dr. David Martin (author and National Team MD) will take place at the awards dinner at the 55th Annual Road Runners Club of America Convention in Albuquerque, NM, on Saturday, May 4. In notifying Fleming of his award, Selection Committee member Mitch Garner congratulated him on "this recognition by your peers of your excellence in the sport of distance running." Noting, "This is a great honor.  You are in very lofty company."

On Saturday, February 9 at Kurtztown, PA, senior Lyndsi Ross-Trevor won the Girls High School Pole Vault at the Douglas Wesner Memorial Invitational with a vault of 11'3".  This is a new MKA girls' pole vault record, as well as being a personal best for Ross-Trevor, who had just broken her own Essex County pole vault record of 10' 6" set last year, with a jump of 11' only one week earlier.

This week of good news continued with the MKA team's showing at the NJ Prep B Track and Field Championships held at Lawrenceville School this past Sunday.  On the boys' side, senior David Kabrt took 2nd place in the 55m Hurdles with a new personal best, as well as taking second place in the 800m.  In the 3200m, junior Drew Crichlow came in 2nd place with a personal best time and in the 3200m, freshman Billy Hughes gained 5th place, also with a personal best time.  On the girls' side, freshman Kathryn Correia took 3rd place in the 1600m, sophomore Madi Fleming ran a personal best to come 4th in the 400m, and freshman Grace Halvey also ran a personal best to gain 5th place in the 200m.
