College Acceptance Successes for the Class of 2009
One of the distinguishing features of the MKA Upper School is the proactive role of the College Counseling Office. With four full-time counselors and two additional part-time advisors specializing in the arts and athletics, the student–counselor ratio is high, enabling students to identify, research and apply to institutions with significant support from the school. This personal attention pays dividends, and college acceptance statistics for the 112 students that make up the Class of 2009 make impressive reading. 68% (or two out of three) of the class were admitted to their first choice school, over 50% were admitted to schools deemed “Most Competitive” by Barron’s Guide to Colleges and 87% were admitted to “Most” or “Highly” competitive schools. In addition, over 25% of the class received non-financial aid based Merit Scholarships from a wide-range of institutions, many of them receiving multiple awards. Some of those colleges bestowing significant merit awards include The University of Chicago, George Washington University, Pratt Institute and Muhlenberg College.
