Hemmeter Lecture on October 29
The Upper School History Department presents “A Political Forum” an evening of topical discussion on politics and the upcoming Presidential election featuring Duncan Currie '00 and Marcia Marley on Wednesday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the Upper School Library, 6 Lloyd Road, Montclair.
Duncan Currie is Managing Editor of The American, the business and public affairs magazine published by the American Enterprise Institute. Prior to joining The American in September 2007, he spent more than three years writing for The Weekly Standard. Mr. Currie graduated from Harvard in 2004, and from MKA in 2000. He has been a “Publius” fellow at the Claremont Institute and a Phillips Foundation journalism fellow. His articles and essays have appeared in a variety of publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The Sydney Morning Herald, National Review, The Claremont Review of Books, The American Spectator, and The Washington Examiner, and he has provided commentary for numerous TV and radio stations, including Fox News, CNN, the BBC, and C-SPAN.
Marcia Marley is the President of BlueWaveNJ, a grassroots organization dedicated to public education, community mobilization, direct advocacy, and electing progressive candidates. The group’s foundation is in issue-based working groups that are open to all. BlueWaveNJ has organized petitions and letter-writing campaigns, and lobbied legislators on issues ranging from net neutrality, education and clean elections to global warming and marriage equality, they have sponsored and co-sponsored educational forums, well-known speakers and film series, distributed hundreds of educational pamphlets and organized demonstrations. Ms. Marley serves on the Boards of Citizen Action and Ceasefire New Jersey and is an active member in the Democratic Party. She has served on the national finance committee of the DNC and is a member of the Women’s Leadership Forum. Following graduate school in economics at UC Berkeley, Ms. Marley taught macroeconomics at New York University
