Michael Johnson, MKA Board President, Provides Case Study To Honors Economics Students

20 February 2015

On the evening of February 19th, the students in the Honors Economics program at the Upper School hosted Michael Johnson, President of the Board of Trustees, for an interesting case study discussion at the Higgins Common Room in the Middle School. The students have been studying about investment banking and Mr. Johnson, a career investment banker, gave them a real life company to analyze and critique. Students were able to learn directly from a seasoned professional how to assess a company's operations, strategy, prospects and stock price. The company, Concho Energy, is an oil exploration company that is being buffeted by the volatility in oil prices. Students were given a series of documents to read and questions to answer in advance of the presentation. They were then able to discuss their findings and opinions with Mr. Johnson. It was a very interactive evening and the students gained a great deal of insight and perspective.
