Middle School Girls' Soccer Shines!

Congratulations to the MKA Middle School Girls' Soccer Team who ended the season with a 17-0-1 record, the best ever according to Coach Ken Smith.
The team scored 98 goals and let up only 9, as 7th grader Izzy Mendez had 13 shut-out games as goalie. Led by Captains Lisa Goldsman (recipient of the Players, Player Award) and Nicole Romola (recipient of the Most Technical Award), other 8th graders who played major roles were Erin Duca (Coaches Award), Dylan Goldberg and Sarah Hollinger. Romola and Duca controled the game in midfield, Goldsman and Goldberg anchored the defense, and Hollinger and Olivia Vaughn scored most of the goals. Skilled 7th graders were Zoe Bieler, Sara Feraca and Morgan Webster, and involved 6th graders included Maddy Sirois, Carly Hatfield and Kamryn Smith. Team role players were Morgan Booker, Maya Gujral, Priya Kapoor, Mariam Abukwaik, Lily Gorodensky and Sam Schmutter.
Major wins for the team included a 2-0 defeat of Heritage, a 3-2 victory over the Roosevelt School, a 3-1 defeat of Oak Knoll and a 4-0 victory over Newark Academy at their Homecoming.
"These girls were not only talented," notes Coach Ken Smith, "but were some of the kindest children I have ever coached at MKA. This group of girls represents all the best there is at MKA."
