MKA Eighth Grade Swimmer Ranked No. 1 in the State
Congratulations to MKA eighth grader, Morgan Smith, who met with great success in the New Jersey Junior Olympic Championships and USA Swimming North Region Speedo Sectional Championships over spring break.
Morgan, who is ranked first in NJ Swimming in the 500 (with a 5:05.89), 1000 and 1650 freestyle for 13-year olds, medaled in six out of her nine 13/14-year old events at the Junior Olympics with a 2nd place in the 1650 yard freestyle in a time of 17:24.63, which currently ranks her 14th in the country for 13-year olds. She swims with the Cougar Aquatic Team (CAT), which trains at the MKA Upper School pool. Her team won overall at the Holiday Classic Invite, the New Jersey Junior Olympic Championships, and the Sectional Championships, which serve as the three biggest meets for the team this season. At the Sectionals, she was one of the youngest swimmers competing in the Women's 200, 500, 1000 and 1650 yard freestyle events. She medaled in the 1650 with a 7th place and lowered her 1000 freestyle time to a 10:29.53.
