MKA Faculty Member Receives Second European Commission for Composition
Montclair Kimberley Academy Music Director Randall Svane has been commissioned by the Chamber Choir of Munich to compose a major work for the 10th anniversary commemoration of 9/11. This new choral work, entitled "Requiem for the Unknown" utilizes texts from two millennium and covers such themes as war, loss, grief, and reconciliation. It is approximately forty minutes in length and scored for oboe, cello, soprano and tenor soloists, and choir. It will be premiered on Sunday, October 16 at the Prinzregenten Theater in Munich, an event sponsored by The American General Counsel In Munich.
Renowned oboist Ramón Ortega Quero and German Music Competition Winner cellist Sebastian Klinger, both Principals in the Bavarian Radio Orchestra will join the Chamber Choir of Munich under the direction of conductor Philipp Amelung. Svane will be in Munich from October 10-18 for television and radio interviews and will attend the rehearsals and world premiere on October 16. This is the second major European commission for Svane in the last two years. Last December, the Schola Cantorum Leipzig premiered his "Antiphons of the Angels" in Leipzig.
