MKA Freshman makes US Junior Gymnastics Team for Maccabiah Games

16 December 2008

Congratulations to MKA freshman David Frankl who has just been selected to represent the United States in gymnastics at the Maccabiah Games in July.  The Maccabiah Games (also known as the Jewish Olympics) are held in Israel every four years following the Olympic Games and attract thousands of the best Jewish athletes from around the world.

David, who has been participating on the US Gymnastic Development Team since he was 7 years old, spends 25 hours a week training and competing all over the country.  Last year, he earned 2nd place overall in the State, and made the semi-finals in the pommel horse event at the Nationals.   More recently, he medaled at a competition in Frisco, Texas on parallel bars, and came in 6th place in the Maccabiah Gymnastic Trials, held in Oklahoma.  It was this performance that earned him a place on the United States Junior Boys Gymnastic Team with five other juniors.  David and his teammates will travel to Israel for three weeks of touring, training and competition in the 18th Maccabiah Games, which begin in Tel Aviv and end in Jerusalem, and are expected to attract 9,000 athletes from over 60 nations.
