MKA Golf Team Helps Raise Funds for Research
Four students from the MKA Golf Team participated in The Mountainside Health Foundation’s Golf Outing – held Tuesday, July 27 at the Montclair Golf Club – that raised more than $37,000 for a Sports Concussion Campaign to disseminate new, research-based guidelines for safe return to play to student-athletes, coaches and parents. The Campaign will help ensure student-athletes don’t risk permanent damage to the brain following a concussion.
This new concussion education program will be developed by the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey, in conjunction with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA), and piloted at the Super Essex Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Summit being held at Bloomfield High School on Thursday, August 26, 2010. Subsequently, the program will be shared statewide with all NJSIAA conferences.
The MKA golfers finished with a flight-leading combined team score of 63. The students included Chris D’Andrea '12, John Mallock '12, Joseph Mallock '10 and Steve Piella '12. Additional congratulations go to Piella, who was recently named the New Jersey Junior PGA Player of the Year for boys ages 16 -18.
