MKA Junior meets with success in Speech and Debate
Congratulations to junior Alexa Semonche who has enjoyed a remarkable season with MKA’s Speech and Debate Team.
In February, Alexa took first place in the JV division of Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Harvard Invitational Tournament. She was up against 100 debaters from the East Coast, and went 11-1 in winning her division. In the State tournament in March she placed 10th, and at the area qualifying round for the National Forensic League’s national tournament, she successfully made it through five rounds to place in the top 15. Alexa’s next challenge will be at the National Championships of the Catholic Forensic League, to be held on Memorial Day weekend.
MKA history teacher and advisor to the team David Korfhage notes, “Overall, Alexa has had an outstanding season, a result of her natural ability as a debater combined with her tremendous focus and hard work.”
