MKA Junior receives CLCC Humanity Award

27 January 2009

Congratulations to MKA junior Erik Helleren, the recipient of a Creative Living Counseling Center Humanity Award.

The CLCC, an interfaith counseling service, established the Humanity Awards nine years ago in response to the Columbine tragedy in an effort to encourage and nurture the qualities of caring, compassion and community building among teens.  Candidates for the awards are nominated by their school or congregation.

Active at his church with technology and environmental issues, Erik initiated the "Common Threads" program to recycle fleece, has been involved with Amnesty International and worked to end the use of waterboarding at Guantanamo Bay.  A computer expert, Erik is often called upon to assist classmates and is a member of the MKA Student Technology Leadershop Committee.
