MKA Juniors Return from Annual Trip to D.C.

12 April 2011

The MKA Junior class recently returned from a three-day field trip to Washington D.C.  This annual trip is a highlight of the junior year Modern US History course, and provides unique insights into the workings of government. As trip organizer and history teacher Gillian Branigan noted, "With the budget crisis raging and a potential government shut-down looming, this year’s trip provided a first hand view of history in the making."

Students took a nighttime tour of the memorials; visited the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, which included a special meeting with a survivor of Auschwitz; and attended small, individualized briefing groups with such organizations as the National Archives, the National Review Online, CRAFT Digital Media, members of the New Jersey Congressional delegation, the EPA, and with Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.  Students wrapped up the trip with a dinner-boat cruise on the Potomac, and a wreath-laying cemetery at Arlington National Cemetery.
