MKA Juniors Selected for Prestigious State Programs

25 April 2023

MKA is proud to announce that three extraordinary students are going to be very busy extending their academic experience and interests this summer. Each student was nominated by MKA and accepted to highly selective programs in New Jersey. We wish them all the best!

Ellis Fertig, a junior from West Orange, has been selected to participate in this summer's Governor’s School of New Jersey Program in the Sciences (GSNJS), a three-week residential program where students are immersed in intense college-level research on the campus of Drew University. This prestigious and highly selective program provides “exposure to a range of scientific topics and scientists. The subject of career exploration and choice is woven throughout the program, [and the second objective is to introduce scientific research to the scholars via hands-on research experience in a student’s area of interest. Resources from New Jersey’s industrial, governmental, and academic science establishments are used.” Read more about the Governor’s School of New Jersey Program in the Sciences.

Cyrus Rosenberg, a junior from Glen Ridge, has been selected to participate in the Governor's School of Engineering & Technology hosted by the Rutgers University School of Engineering. This program brings together some of New Jersey's most talented and motivated high school students for four weeks in the summer to pursue their interests in “engineering disciplines.” During their time on the Rutgers campus, students take classes and create a unique research project that they complete utilizing resources both on and off the Rutgers campus. Students then present their work in a culminating research symposium. “Many of [the Governor's School of Engineering & Technology] students relish the fact that they're among peers who love math, science, and engineering.” Read more about the Governor's School of Engineering & Technology.

Elias Solomon, a junior from Ridgewood, has been selected for this summer's New Jersey Scholars Program. Students who participate in the interdisciplinary college-level five-week summer program, expand their intellectual abilities by considering the session’s topic, Into the Borderlands: Living and Learning Where Worlds Collide in light of the question, “How does one live in a world where the only constant is change?” The mission of the New Jersey Scholars Program is “To provide New Jersey’s rising high school seniors of extraordinary demonstrated academic potential with a free, ungraded, diverse, inclusive, and residential interdisciplinary learning environment that sharpens critical thinking, writing, and research skills, stimulates a desire for life-long learning, and fosters lasting interpersonal connections.” Read more about the New Jersey Scholars Program.
