MKA Launches New Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
MKA is embracing the school's commitment to empowerment by engaging the parent body as the newest voice in their diversity and inclusion initiatives. On October 2nd, Headmaster Thomas Nammack hosted an evening to familiarize parents with the administration’s beliefs and goals. Joined by Director of Diversity and Inclusion Dominique Gerard and the campus coordinators Monica Elmore, Shanie Israel, and Sheila Sarma, over thirty parents from all three campuses attended and learned about the administration’s plans to involve parents in their work and heard about the administration's mission to foster an inclusive community that develops personal character and strong identity.
After receiving encouragement to join in the school's efforts to promote even greater diversity and inclusion within the MKA community, new Pre-K parent Jerrod Freund commented, “It is a privilege to be a part of something so young in its development. Just as my daughter is beginning her schooling, I too am grateful to become part of this journey and am excited to think of the potential and possibilities that MKA is affording me as a parent.”
Working towards the goal of an inclusive community that recognizes the diversity of all families and individuals, the MKA Diversity and Inclusion Parent Committee will partner with the administration and faculty on strategic, mission-driven projects that constructively address the school's programs and policies. Any MKA parent who wants to contribute to MKA’s vision and planning for Diversity and Inclusion should attend the campus meetings later on this month: October 22 (7:00 p.m., Upper School Library), October 23 (7:00 p.m., Primary School Library) and October 24 (7:00 p.m., Middle School Library).
