MKA Middle School Opens New Year with a New Auditorium

03 January 2011

The entire MKA Middle School community celebrated the start of a new year with a formal assembly to recognize the completion of the newly renovated Penick Auditorium.

This $1.3 million refurbishment includes state of the art lighting and sound board equipment, new seats, flooring and curtains and the wiring of some seats to allow for the space to become a lapop learning facility.  Head of Campus Dr. Randy Kleinman and Headmaster Thomas Nammack both offered their thanks to all those involved in making the the project a reality - from the generous donors to the MKA maintenance department; while other speakers, including Dean of Student Life Lynn Salehi and F&PA teacher Alex Gordon, echoed the words of the MKA school song that gives "Thanks to those who went before" and emphasized the responsibility of current students to maintain and respect the space for future generations.

It was an assembly that mixed the serious with the fun, including guessing the number of new seats (459) to reading cues from a conductor as to when to applaud in a musical performance, and was a joyous celebration of the new space's potential to enhance what is an already an extremely strong Middle School fine and performing arts program.
