MKA Middle School Students Express "Wonder"
On Friday, October 18th, MKA Middle School students assembled to celebrate the theme of ability expressed through the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio.
The book, this year's Middle School community summer reading assignment, centers around August, an ordinary child with an extraordinary face and the obstacles he must face in middle school. MKA students in grades 4 through 8 explored themes from the book and interpreted them through dance, art and video, as well as through sharing personal stories and service learning experiences.
The assembly was part of MKA's yearlong Diversity & Inclusion initiative promoting the exchange of ideas and open discussion around the topic of ability. Similar discussions are taking place at the Primary School, where students read My Brother Charlie by Holly Robinson and at the Upper School, where students read Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
Check out photos and a 5th grade video from the assembly.
