MKA Mourns Loss of a Beloved Colleague

26 September 2012

It is with profound sadness that Montclair Kimberley Academy learned of the death earlier today, September 26, 2012, of Albert 'Al Rehus, a beloved and treasured member of the MKA family.

In a letter to the MKA community, Headmaster Thomas Nammack wrote the following:

"Al was a beloved and deeply respected colleague who served as a key member of the community and its security team for the past fifteen years. Despite the challenges of a significant illness, Al chose to continue with his work at MKA until just before he died after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Al was a friend, mentor and role model to countless students at the Upper School. In 2011, the Alumni Council named him an Honorary Alumnus of the Class of 2011, and the following year the Class of 2012 dedicated their Yearbook to him.

Al’s commitment to the entire MKA community cannot be measured, “He is simply irreplaceable,” notes Upper School Head Dave Flocco, “for all of us who walk into the Upper School every day, his absence will be profound. Al’s was the first face people saw and he gave everybody the feeling that on his watch everything would be okay.”

Information about services for Al will be made available as soon as possible. At Al and his wife Rosemary’s request, donations in Al’s memory may be made to an educational fund for their grandson Jeremy. Please contact my Assistant, Carol Ippisch, for Information about how to direct a contribution to that fund.

I know that the entire school community joins me in expressing to Rosemary, their daughter Jamie and grandson Jeremy our respect, love and appreciation for this exceptional man."
