MKA Senior a Finalist in Singer/Songwriter Competition

19 September 2011

Congratulations to MKA senior Daryl Uberoi who was a finalist in The Berklee School of Music's Performing Singer/Songwriter Competition this summer.

An attendee at Berklee's Five-Week Summer Performance Program, Uberoi's Rap composition "The Academy" was selected from 500 entries and two rounds of auditions to be performed in a public concert at the 1000-seat Berklee Performance Center. The performance, backed by a band, was taped and broadcast live.

Uberoi, who had been a member of the MKA Middle School band until 7th grade and whose high school band Wingate, (including fellow MKA band mate Alex Graves '11, now studying bass and music at Belmont College in Nashville) had been a fixture on the local band scene, began his formal music training at the MKA Upper School. After expressing an interest in a career in music to his advisor, MKA Upper School Band Director Chuck Olsen, Uberoi began taking piano lessons, then went on to individual music theory study with Olsen, prior to advancing to regular music theory class and studying at Berklee this summer.
