MKA Seniors Get Off to a Strong Start with College Acceptances

14 January 2013

Holiday gifts in the shape of early college acceptances came in for over half the MKA Class of 2013 last month.

For over twenty students, the college search is now over as early acceptances secured their first-choice destination – including at such prestigious schools as Harvard, Princeton, Penn, Cornell, Williams, Wesleyan, Dartmouth and Amherst.

Almost twice that number of students received non-binding early acceptances from another huge range of colleges, including Georgetown, Notre Dame (2), Boston College (4) and Fordham (5), Indiana (5), Michigan (3) and Villanova (3). For students looking further afield, acceptances came from Colorado College, the University of San Francisco and the University of Edinburgh and for those with a vocation, from specialist destinations such as Savannah College of Art and Design and Johnson & Wales.

“The fall was notable for the tremendous accomplishments of our seniors as students, artists and athletes, as well as for the challenges we faced,” remarks Head of Upper School Dr. David Flocco, “so it is especially gratifying to see such great results for so many of them. Their ability to stay focused, maintain their high standard of work and deal with the demands of the college application process is commendable, as is the dedication of our College Counseling Office, who not only work so hard to advocate for our students, but who also went above and beyond to support every one of them in the face of the early application disruption caused by Hurricane Sandy.”
