MKA Seniors Meet With Success in National Scholarship Competitions
Congratulations to seventeen MKA seniors who have recently been recognized in National Scholarship Competitions, two of whom have been named Semifinalists.
Vera Shipman is a Semifinalist in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Competition, and Elliot Furbert is a Semifinalist in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Competition, as well as being named a Commended Scholar in the National Merit Scholarship Competition.
At MKA, Shipman is a member of the Mastersingers and Chorale, a member of the Fencing Team and an active participant in Math Club, having represented MKA in the Essex County Math League Tournament for the past three years. Most recently, she participated in the school’s Chilean Exchange Program.
Furbert is a two-season member of the MKA Track and Field team, plays lead tenor in Jazz Band, is President of the Classics League, Vice-President of Habitat for Humanity and Co-President of the Chess Club. He also was also selected as a 2013 New Jersey Scholar.
In addition, the following seniors were also named Commended Scholars in the National Merit Scholarship Competition: William Bator, Ethan Connolly, Kassandra Fotiadis, Gina Guccione, Ryan Kashtan, Jonathan Logan-Rung, Kelsey O’Connor, Jack Renshaw-Lewis, Elliot Richardson, Nadia Uberoi and Samuel Zinn.
In the National Achievement Scholarship Program, the following students were named Outstanding Participants Referred to College: Savannah Fusaro, Nicholas Harris, Sydney Larrier and Amy Parker.
