MKA Senior's Work Showcased in New York Times

Congratulations to MKA senior Iris Loureiro, whose photograph of a child waiting to register for school in Newark (above) has been published on the New York Times website.
Last spring, the Times asked high school students across the country to submit photos on "My Hometown." The orignial plan was to publish all the images on the paper's site, but so many entries were received that the editors had to jury the submissions, ultimately selecting only 145 images out of the more than 4,200 submitted. Loureiro was in art teacher Anthony Cuneo's Photo 2 class last year when she took the shot, and is now studying A.P. Studio Art with him.
When submitting the entry to the Times, Cuneo wrote ""Known for excellence in the fine and performing arts, MKA has placed recent graduates in art programs all over the country and, as a teacher, it always gives me a thrill to see the work students are making five or six years out from MKA; they get better and better and I take a lot of satisfaction in knowing we helped kindle that spark of interest."
