MKA Students Blog from POC Conference

06 December 2011

On Wednesday, November 30, a group of eight MKA Upper School students, together with twelve faculty members and administrators from all three campuses (including Headmaster Tom Nammack and Middle School Campus Head Randy Kleinman,) boarded a bus and headed to Philadelphia for three days to attend the Student Diversity Leadership Conference/People of Color Conference.

This annual national event brings independent school students and faculty together to discuss all aspects of diversity within a community. MKA students have consistently returned from the conference with anecdotes and reflections supporting the life-changing experiences that the conference can provide, and this year was no exception.

Thanks to the ease of blogging, sharing these remarkable first-hand experiences has now become easier. MKA's new Diversity Blog, diversity@mka.org, was implemented as a means for Diversity Leadership Students and Tri-Campus Diversity Coordinators (together with guest authors) to share and increase conversations in and around issues of diversity and inclusion at MKA. The blog provided the perfect vehicle for MKA's conference attendees to post their reflections, so click here to read accounts from participants, including juniors Elijah Adderley, Sydney Freeman, Jon Logan-Rung, Kristyn Morisseau, Rob Pannullo and Bridget Velez, and seniors Olivia Vicioso and Jeremy Zak.
