MKA Students featured at Montclair Art Museum

22 January 2009

In a developing partnership between The Montclair Kimberley Academy and the Montclair Art Museum, a reception was held at the museum on January 14th to kick off the opening of two student projects.
Seventh grade students in Monica Elmore’s “Connecting the Arts” class were invited to record their own personal interpretations and responses to works of art in the museum’s collection.  The students made multiple visits to MAM to research and identify works that they particularly liked, then recorded their responses which can now be heard as part of the museum’s Audio Tour Guide, accessible to visitors via cell phone.
Upper School students in AP Studio Art and Studio Art Honors classes had visited the museum’s Philip Pearlstein: Objectifications exhibit, attended a lecture by the artist and taken part in a life-drawing class in the fall in preparation for creating their own works of realism.  These are now displayed in the museum’s Education Arcade.
Both projects will run through the end of the month.
