MKA Students Participate in Model UN at Brown University

12 November 2013

From November 8-10, 20 MKA Upper School students participated in the Brown University Simulation of the Model United Nations program in Providence RI.  The trip was headed by senior leaders Luke Polizzi and Mary Kate Turner and the MKA delegation was comprised of students from all four grade levels.

MKA students represented the countries of Kenya, Chile and Ghana and debated such topics as global economics, pollution and the situation in the Middle East.  In all, over 800 students from a geographically diverse group of schools participated.  Model UN advisor Tom Carroll notes, "Our students had opportunities to learn about parliamentary debate, hone public speaking skills and meet friends from many different schools."

Another group of 20 different MKA students will participate in a similar program at the University of Pennsylvania in late January.
