MKA Students Win National Silver Medals in Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Congratulations to two MKA students who have earned national recognition in the 2015 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Senior Mady Thuyein received a prestigious National Silver Medal for Poetry and junior Rachel Sobel received both a Silver and a Bronze Medal for two pieces in the Playwriting category.
Over 255,000 works of art and writing were submitted and only the top 1% was recognized at the National level by panels of creative professionals.
Founded in 1923, The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers, is the oldest, longest running and most eminent recognition program for creative teenagers in grades 7-12 in the country. Former winners include Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, Lena Dunham, Andy Warhol, John Updike and Joyce Carol Oates.
Congratulations also go to the following MKA students who received Honorable Mentions: junior Peter Colbert (Flash Fiction), senior Nicole Romola (Poetry) and junior Erik Zeug (Poetry).
