MKA Teams Contribute to Community

As part of MKA's commitment to service learning, every Upper School athletic team takes part in a community service initiative, and recently, two teams made significant contributions by extending their efforts to involve their competitors.

On October 4, the MKA Girls' Volleyball team took on and defeated Montclair High 2-0 in the second annual "Dig Pink" game between the schools to raise funds for breast cancer research. The game, part of a national initiative organized by the Side-Out Foundation, drew great attendance at the MKA Middle School Main Gym, and funds, now totalling over $6,000 were raised by both schools through ticket and ad sales and a bake sale.

In addition to having a historic playing season (currently 4-1) the MKA Football Team spearheaded a food drive to benefit St. Peter's Village Residential Treatment Facility for young boys in Denville, NJ, at their October 9 game against Glen Ridge. Spectators from both sides were invited to participate and over 1,000 pounds of non-perishable items were collected.  In addition, members of the Football Team helped raise $350 for the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Network in Bloomfield the next day as they collected money at the local Shop-Rite.
