MKA Upper School Students Engage in Political Dialogue
01 April 2014
On Monday, March 31, a group of MKA Upper School history students met with Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen, a seasoned member of Congress from NJ's 11th District. The group consisted of students from Government, Political Theory and Modern US History Honors classes. Gillian Branigan, MKA's Dean of Students and history teacher, commented on the visit, "Our students asked Congressman Frelinghuysen questions ranging from the scope of the NSA's data collection to tensions with Russia and the Ukraine. The Congressman was impressed with the questions that they asked, and we were all so grateful that he took more than an hour out of his demanding schedule to be with us." Andrew Prince, History and Ethics teacher, added, "Yesterday's visit from Congressman Frelinghuysen was a great opportunity for our students to learn more about current political issues from a person with a unique insight on them. It was particularly rewarding for me as a teacher to see my students acquit themselves so well in political dialogue with a man who represents many of them in the political process." The Congressman concluded his visit with making a gift of a US flag that has been flown at The Capitol.
