MKA's Academy Forum presents Neil deGrasse Tyson and Stephen Colbert
The Parents’ Association of The Montclair Kimberley Academy invites you to join them on Friday, January 29, for a star-filled evening of entertainment and education, when celebrated astrophysicist and Director of the Hayden Planetarium Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson is interviewed live on stage by Stephen Colbert. This event, which is open to the public and free of charge, is part of PAMKA’s Academy Forum series.
Tyson, who grew up in New York City, earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a doctorate in Astrophysics from Columbia University. His particular areas of research include star formation, exploding stars and the structure of the Milky Way. In 2001, he was appointed to serve on a 12-member commission to study the future of the US Aerospace Industry, and in 2004, was appointed to a 9-member commission on the implementation of the US Space Exploration Policy. Tyson is the recipient of nine honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal. In 2007, Time Magazine voted him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
The host of the popular PBS NOVA ScienceNow series, Tyson is a prolific author and journalist. A monthly contributor to Natural History magazine, his recent books include the New York Times bestseller Death by Black Hole and Other Cosmic Quandaries and The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America’s Favorite Planet and The Sky is Not The Limit.
Stephen Colbert, comedian, author, alumnus of The Daily Show and creator and host of award-winning The Colbert Report has interviewed Tyson on several previous occasions.
This event will take place in The Montclair Kimberley Academy Middle School Auditorium, 201 Valley Road, Montclair, (please enter via the Brunswick Road parking lot). Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for advance book sales; the event will start at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a book signing by Dr. Tyson. Please note that seating is limited, but there will be a video feed provided to accommodate any overflow.
