MKA's Annual Strings Gala moves to NJPAC

09 April 2009

On Saturday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m., the MKA Strings Program under the direction of Dimitri Hadjipetkov will perform their annual gala concert at NJPAC’s Victoria Theatre.  This new venue reflects the growth of the program, which, now in its tenth year, has close to 100 students in grades K-12.  Works by Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and John Williams will be featured, with solo performances by Katie Davis and Katie De Keizer (both seniors), junior Alexa Semonche, sophomore Rafi Bildner and freshman David Frankl.

The move from their past performance space in Carnegie Hall to NJPAC is explained by Hadjipetkov: “NJPAC’s beautiful Victoria Theatre is perfect in terms of size for us and also closer to home.  This should allow many more people to come see our incredible concert.”  The focus of the program is to teach young musicians a classical repertoire that has stood the test of time.  “My goal is to make learning a piece of classical music fun, says Hadjipetkov.  “Many works that we play are in their original versions as they were intended to by played by professionals and I treat the orchestra like they are exactly that.”

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at strings@mka.org at  dhadjipetkov@mka.org or by calling (973) 842-2853.
