MKA's Director of Technology Quoted in Washington Times Article

16 August 2011

MKA's Director of Technology William Stites was recently quoted in a Washington Times article reporting Missouri's move to prohibit teachers from "friending" students on popular social network sites such as Facebook.

Expressing concern that legislation only confuses the issue and may actually impede teachers in their ability to use technology to its fullest educational potential in the classroom, Stites also warns that there is no legislation that can prevent against the constant development of social media technologies.

At MKA, faculty work within the guidelines of a specific school Social Media Policy that, while supporting the educational use of social technologies in the clasroom, clearly prohibits the "friending" of current students. In the Pre-K-12 school that provides a 1:1 Laptop Learning environment, students and parents also abide by an Acceptable Use Policy.
