MKA's Third Grade Students Write Letters for Social Change

08 July 2015

MKA's third-grade students recently wrote letters as part of their social studies class where they learned about how to create social change in their community covering topics from smoking to affordable childcare.

Third-grade teacher Dana Rose said that this year, she and fellow teachers Meghan Schorr and Maurine Toth started a new section of their social studies curriculum that dealt with quality-of-life issues. Rose said speakers from local community organizations including United Way, PAWS, and Bike&Walk Montclair were invited to speak to the students about what affects quality of life in communities.

The letters found their way to various entities, including The Montclair Times, where many of them were answered.
