MKA's Toni High Wins School Nurse of the Year Award

Many congratulations to Toni High, MKA's Tri-Campus Nursing Director and Middle School Nurse, who has been named School Nurse of the Year by the Northern New Jersey and Rockland County Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes research and, since its founding in 1970, has awarded more than $1.6 billion to research.
High, who has herself had type 1 diabetes for more than 40 years, came to MKA in 2005, and was nominated for this prestigious honor by Kenneth Stier, a 7th grade student.
In the letter of nomination, High is described as having "“a fantastic attitude, an infectious smile, and tremendous patience,” and giving the students the “confidence to handle the disease, the skills to self-manage the disease, and the compassion to make everything okay.”
MKA Headmaster Thomas Nammack made a surprise announcement of High's selection in front of her students and colleagues at a Middle School Moving Up Assembly, prior to her being formally persented with the award at a JDRF dinner held on June 12.
