MKA's Youngest Spend Weekend Time Helping Others
Some of MKA's youngest students spent part of their weekend helping others in a very hands-on way.
One second grader, six third graders, and one fourth grader, each accompanied by a parent, volunteered for a two-hour shift at the Community FoodBank of NJ in Hillside. The group worked as a team to break a 650 lb. box of pasta down into 1lb., labeled, sealed bags, that they then boxed for delivery to facilities that will distribute the pasta to families in need.
MKA Third Grade Coordinator Dana Rose said: "The children worked very hard and learned that the time that they donated made it possible for hundreds of New Jersey families to receive much needed food." She also noted that there had been a wait list for the trip, which is part of the Primary School's Service Learning curriculum.
