Opportunity knocks for Dubious Pastry!

10 March 2009

MKA’s homegrown band Dubious Pastry has made it to the finals of The Break Contest East 2009; a multiple round battle of the bands that leads to a set at a major rock festival. From an initial pool of over 160 bands, Dubious Pastry now joins the final forty to battle it out at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park on Saturday, April 18 for a place on stage at the two-day Bamboozle Festival at the Meadowlands in May.

The band, comprising seniors Brandon Bost (drums), Becky Hirsch (bass), Guy Kozak (lead guitar) and John Meyer (keyboard and vocals) formed in 8th grade at the Middle School and have been frequent entertainers at MKA events ranging from the Book Fair to Cougar Pride Day to Habitat for Humanity fundraisers.  They have a loyal following among the MKA community, and close to 50 students turned out to cheer them on at the semi-finals held this past weekend.

The band, who compose all their own material, have recorded one CD (available on iTunes and CD Baby) and have their most recent song, Exodus, available on MySpace.
