Pulitzer Nominated Author to Speak at MKA

12 February 2014

An inspiring evening is guaranteed on Wednesday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m., when acclaimed writer, lecturer and Pulitzer Prize nominee Andrew Solomon will discuss his best-selling book Far From the Tree: Parents, Children & the Search for Identity. This Academy Forum event, sponsored by MKA's Parents' Association, will be held in the MKA Middle School Auditorium, 201 Valley Road, Montclair, and is open to the public and free of charge - no tickets are required.

Described as “a book everyone should read... there’s no one who wouldn’t be a more imaginative and understanding parent — or human being — for having done so,” Far From the Tree received the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award for nonfiction and was namedone of the Ten Best Books of 2012 by The New York Times,Publishers Weekly, the Boston Globe, the San Francisco Chronicle, Time magazine, BuzzFeed magazine and the Economist.

Mr. Solomon’s books and essays explore the subjects of politics, culture and psychology with humanity and passion.  Far From the Tree documents the lives of families with children who differ from their parents in unanticipated and sometimes dramatic ways.  Solomon explores how families cope with these differences and, through the lens of their experiences, shows us how the challenges of difference and disability can broaden one’s capacity for love.
