Rachel Simmons Helps Foster Peer Relationships at MKA

04 October 2012

Acclaimed author and educator and co-founder of the Girls Leadership Institute Rachel Simmons visited the Middle School on October 3rd to present a workshop fostering peer relationships.  Discussions highlighted areas such as toxic friendships, the No Joke Zone and personal boundaries. Students participated in an array of activities to help promote awareness. Series of questions were posed intermittently and six students demonstrated their comfort levels up on stage in front of the entire student body. In addition to working with the students, Simmons was the guest at an informal luncheon with about twenty-five Middle School parents.  She answered questions and generated discussion on many topics, including understanding our children's use of social media and how to set family guidelines and limits, helping our children develop resilience, and understanding the impact of relational and psychological aggression.
